7th Grade literacy narrative

For my 7th Grade Literacy Narrative revisions, I implemented an additional layer to connect the three stories that are interwoven in the text. The first story I present is the story of my dad and his struggles with literacy as a legally-blind person. He devised his own unique systems for reading, writing and teaching reading and writing. He has always been great at speaking to and socializing with people, however, which was something I struggled with from a young age. The second layer to this narrative is my brother’s story as someone who also struggled with reading but for different reasons. I admired both of them in life for their ability to be social but could understand why they did not love reading as much as I did.

My connection to reading and writing is the third layer to the story that I added during my revision process. I was missing the connection of my dad and brother as a way for me to overcome my social anxiety issues and used their methods of navigating reading and writing differently as a model for myself. They inspired me to overcome my own obstacles and I tried to weave that back into the text by elaborating on the metaphor I built throughout the essay. The metaphor I tried to elaborate on was the metaphor of my dad biking through the city as a way to overcome obstacles. This metaphor played into both my brother’s journey through literacy as well as my own.
